Dummy Roping Rules

– Neon & Nylon Dummy Roping Championships: Official Rules –

Presented by American Hat Company at the Let’s Go Rodeo WNFR Watch Party, Bourbon Street Lounge at The Orleans Hotel & Casino, December 3–12.

Entry & Eligibility

  • Ropers must be 21 or older. ID will be required at the event.
  • Each night is limited to 50 participants.
  • To enter, follow Jody Carper on Instagram & Facebook and comment with your name and the night you’d like to rope, or use the online entry form.

How It Works

  • A slot machine spin determines the distance, Rank Rack size, and the technique or position for each round. That’s roping, Vegas style.
  • In Round 1, everyone ropes. Miss, and you’re out. The slot machine is spun again after each round, and a miss in any round eliminates you.
  • Ropers compete until the top five remain. The top five return after the WNFR performance for the Wrangler Short Round.
  • If fewer than five ropers remain, we go back to the last round and re-rope everyone who missed, continuing until only five remain.
  • Each night’s winner advances to the Top 10 on December 12. If they decline to return on the 12th, the spot is offered to the 2nd place finisher, then on down the line. Ties are settled with a rope-off to decide 2nd through 5th until someone accepts. We will not go past the top five; if no one accepts, two finishers will be picked the following night.
  • On December 12, the Top 50 rope before the rodeo, including the Wrangler Championship Round. The nightly winners return after the WNFR performance to compete in the Top 10.
  • The champion receives $5,000 cash and prizes.

Rules During Competition

  • Contestants will be provided a Fast Back rope for the competition. You cannot bring your own rope.
  • Stepping on the line, or on or outside the edge of the circle, is a disqualification.
  • Head catches are slick around the horns unless the producer or judge decides differently before the round starts.
  • All judges’ decisions are final.

Special Nights
